Four Week Week Alpine Classic

Objective:
A 4-week coaching course for solid intermediate or above skiers/riders looking to get into touring and ski mountaineering. This course is for those who can’t take a longer course or who want a solid foundation at the start of the season that will enable them to get going independently through the rest of the season.  The course will include all of the 4-day ASC2 Course, is endorsed by the MSC and includes a certified companion rescue component.

Consists of 1 day a week in the field
Plus 60 minutes/week on an online call with specific skills training in preparation for the weekend field session.

Dates:
Field:  4 Sundays: July 9, 16, 23, & 30
Online meeting: four Tuesday nights 8-9pm: July 4 (in-person at Chill at 6pm), July 11, 18, and 25.

Online calls include:

  • Equipment: What do you need to have in your pack and on your feet
  • Packing (includes carrying skis/boards on packs)
  • Planning and preparation – weather, avalanche forecasts, where to get information, back up plans
  • Navigation:  Apps, tricks and tools
  • Technical gear and skills: crevasse rescue kits, ice screws, snow stakes

Field days include:

  • Avalanche terrain evaluation and route-finding in avalanche terrain  
  • Companion rescue
  • Snowpack evaluation and tests
  • Decision making
  • Ski and split board tours to objectives in the Craigieburn and Arthurs Pass
  • Snow anchors, crevasse rescue
  • Abseiling, technical climbing skills

Price: Full course – 4 zooms plus 5 field days = $1495

Cancellation Policy:

 - ­ Full refund less 15% deposit (admin fee) if you cancel more than 21 days prior to start. There are no refunds on processing fees.

 -­ If you cancel 21 days or less prior to the course start there is no refund.  No refunds or reschedules will be provided in the event of injury, illness (including Covid-19), equipment failure, lack of fitness, or ability.

 -­ If the trip is postponed due to weather conditions on day one, a refund less 15%. Processing fees are not eligable for refunds.
